ABOUT US

Founded in 2015 by Selim and Houda Bouafsoun, NAFAS is a living collection shaped by instinct, curiosity, and belief. Rooted initially in geometric abstraction, it has evolved to include artists working across disciplines and geographies, engaging with questions of identity, history, and power. Materials are integral, chosen for what they carry, not just how they appear.

With a focus on emerging and mid-career artists, particularly from Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America, NAFAS approaches collecting as a long-term commitment rather than a moment of acquisition.

The name Nafas, breath, reflects its approach: continuous, quiet, and essential.

A collection not defined by scale, but by attention.

COLLECTION

COLLECTION

A place where creativity is not only produced, but sustained. NAFAS actively participates in the acquisition and circulation of artworks, building a collection that balances cultural depth, aesthetic sensitivity, and strategic curation. Each piece reflects an artist given the necessary time and freedom to create without compromise.

RESIDENCIES

In partnership with l’Atelier by Selma Feriani, Nafas offers residencies for artists curious to explore Tunisia and the Arab world. Based in a house in Menzah 9, Tunis, the residency is conceived as a home as much as a place of creation: a space for research, experimentation, and exchange, where artists engage with local contexts and let new perspectives shape their practice.

Rooted in Tunisia and open to the world, it reflects Nafas’s belief that supporting artists begins with giving them time, space, and attention.
